A 22-year-old man who was found with 68 files of child sexual abuse material at the Los Indios International Bridge has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas announced in a press release.

Kevin Alejandro Santos-Moya, of Mexico, who pleaded guilty on May 30, 2024, was sentenced in Brownsville federal court on Thursday by U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr.

Santos-Moya was arrested on June 30, 2023 when he arrived at the bridge and was referred for further inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

In secondary, a CBP officer asked him where his phone was and the man claimed not to have one, according to a criminal complaint.

The CBP officer, however, found a red iPhone in his car and Santos-Moya admitted the phone was his and provided a pass code.

In all, investigators determined that he had 31 images and 37 videos of child sexual abuse material.

The indictment against him stated that the victims were under 12 years old.

At the sentencing hearing, Rodriguez also ordered Santos-Moya to pay $3,000 in restitution to a known victim. He was also ordered to serve 10 years supervised release following his sentence.

“During that time, he will have to comply with numerous requirements designed to restrict his access to children and the internet,” the release stated. “Santos-Moya will also be ordered to register as a sex offender.”

Santos-Moya, who is not a U.S. citizen, will likely be deported following the completion of his sentence.

He has remained in custody since his arrest.
