Los Fresnos CISD addresses alleged threat toward district

LOS FRESNOS, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Police are investigating a school threat that was allegedly made toward the Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District.

One Los Fresnos CISD student is facing disciplinary consequences for the alleged threat.

Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar released a statement Friday afternoon regarding the investigation.

"The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority in Los Fresnos CISD and we are committed to ensuring parents are informed of safety and security concerns," Salazar said.

In the statement, the unidentified student is said to have made a possible threatening comment related to Los Fresnos CISD inside a local restaurant Thursday evening.

Father seeks help locating 3-year-old daughter

A patron of the restaurant overheard the student's threat and contacted authorities, the statement includes.

As of Friday morning, the student remains off school property as the investigation continues.

"Threats against the school district, even made in a joking manner, may result in arrest, police custody and possible conviction," Salazar continued.

Salazar encourages parents, guardians and staff to warn their children about the consequences that will result from joking, posting or making comments that can be taken as a threat of violence.

"We will remain vigilant and committed to work collaboratively with you and law enforcement to keep everyone safe," Salazar said.
