Lighthouse Matsuri anime convention happening this weekend

PORT ISABEL, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Lighthouse Matsuri, an anime-themed convention, is coming to South Padre Island and Port Isabel this weekend.

The two-day event welcomes fans of anime and pop culture across the Rio Grande Valley.

"Matsuri is a Japanese word for celebration. Lighthouse Matsuri is essentially a celebration of the local area," said event organizer Johnny Zamora.

Lighthouse Matsuri will have various live performances, cosplayers and voice actors.

Zamora says attendees can expect voice actors from One Punch Man, Toradora, Dragonball Z Boruto, Jujutsu Kaisen and more.

Lighthouse Matsuri will begin Saturday at the Holiday Inn Resort at 100 Padre Blvd. in South Padre Island.

The event will then relocate on Sunday to the Port Isabel Event and Cultural Center at 309 Railroad St.

Doors open at 11 a.m. both days.
