WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Some Weslaco residents are being asked to shelter in place following a hazmat issue near the North Texas Water Treatment Plant.
Hazmat crews and first responders are at the water plant, located on 2500 N. Texas Blvd., which is located north of the expressway.
The city says it had a chlorine dioxide chemical line leak at the Sugarcane Water Plant, located at Sugarcane Road and Texas Avenue in Weslaco.
In a state, the city says the affected area has been isolated outside the plant and that there should be no impact to drinking water.
There are no evacuations at this hour, but the area is closed to the public until further notice. Residents are advised to avoid the neighborhood.
Updates will be provided as they become available.
