HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Sgt. Sal Carmona from the Harlingen Police Department stopped by the ValleyCentral studios to talk about the annual "Click It or Ticket" campaign.

The campaign emphasizes the importance of seat belt usage for all passengers, regardless of the time of day or seating position.

The campaign continues through June 1, which includes officers looking for seat belt violators. Sgt. Carmona highlights that seat belts have saved over 8,000 lives and notes the misconception that airbags negate the need for seat belts.

Additionally, a car seat inspection event is scheduled for May 27 at the Harlingen Corners Shopping Center from 4 to 6 p.m., where certified technicians will ensure proper installation and safety of child car seats.

In addition, Sgt. Carmona mentions a Memorial Day candlelight vigil ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Park (Pendleton Park) on May 30 at 7 p.m., the traditional observance of Memorial Day, to honor Americans killed in battle.
