ELSA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Students at IDEA Elsa showcased their legal skills in a mock trial practice led by Judge Armando Marroquin on Thursday.

The event is part of the Legal Studies Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway, where students apply what they learned during the summer 'Raise the Bar' internship program. The internship program involved shadowing attorneys, observing court proceedings, and assisting in drafting legal documents alongside local legal professionals.

The mock trial practice featured students acting as attorneys, witnesses, and jurors, providing strong visuals and sound for attendees.

Judge Marroquin got to mentor students directly on courtroom processes, offering them firsthand experience in legal proceedings.

"If you participate in a mock trial, regardless if you want to go down this career path, you will come out a different person. You will be someone who has to think on the fly. You will be much better at public speaking. You'll learn how to work in a team environment. And I think what separates a mock trial from a lot of other extracurricular activities," Judge Marroquin said.

The mock trial practice at IDEA Elsa highlighted the practical legal training students receive, preparing them for future careers in law and public service.
