Major road in Edinburg closed due to knocked down utility pole

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A portion of a major road in Edinburg is closed until further notice, the City of Edinburg announced.

As of Saturday morning, Freddy Gonzalez Drive from Sugar Road to 4th Street is closed following a car crash that knocked down a utility pole.

Photos shared by the City of Edinburg show the utility pole and other power lines collapsed in the middle of the street.

The AEP Texas outage map indicates the power went out at 6:32 a.m. and may not be restored until 5 p.m. this afternoon.

The utility company reports that at this hour, 280 homes and businesses are without power.

The City of Edinburg urges drivers to use alternate routes and to drive with caution.
