Harlingen daycare releases statement after incident leaves 15-month-old in critical condition

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Little Red Schoolhouse Child Development Center Daycare provided a statement following an incident where a 15-month-old child was found unresponsive.

At 2:53 p.m. Thursday, authorities responded to 1502 Dixieland Road regarding an unresponsive 15-month-old girl, a news release from Harlingen Police Department stated.

At the scene, officers found a daycare worker holding the child. One of the officers immediately started CPR, until EMS arrived and took over, the release stated.

The child was taken to a local hospital where she remains in critical condition.

On Friday, the daycare provided a statement following the incident.

"We are heartbroken to inform you about a recent incident at our daycare involving the mistreatment of a child by a care provider," the statement read. "This incident was recorded on video and promptly reviewed by the police at our facility."

They statement added that the daycare worker was taken into police custody and will never work for the Little Red Schoolhouse again.

"We extend our deepest apologies to the affected family and to all families at the Little Red Schoolhouse. We are devastated and deeply upset by what has happened. This incident is not reflective of who we are or the standards we uphold," Little Red Schoolhouse stated.

Authorities said, a 30-year-old woman, who worked at the daycare, was arrested and charged with injury to a child. She was arraigned Saturday morning.
