Hamer: Texas is the best place on Earth to invest

6 months ago 152

Texas is No. 1 for 12 straight years as winner of Site Selection magazine’s Governor’s Cup. Texas is the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world when it comes to economic development.

Inspiring words from the “Jobs Governor” Greg Abbott. Low tax, light regulatory touch are big parts of the Texas Miracle.

The Texas Constitution bans the personal income tax and our regulatory environment moves at the speed of business. The Texas biz environment continues to get even better.

Last year the state enacted the largest property tax cut in history and made massive investments in water, broadband, energy, community colleges and universities.

We also passed a powerful new economic development tool (JETI) to attract large capital intensive projects and thanks to the leadership of Texans for Lawsuit Reform established specialized business courts. The state works with biz. Partners. When biz succeeds the state benefits.

Jobs juggernaut of America. As a country the $2.4 trillion GDP of Texas would be ranked No. 8. By end of year we’re likely to blow past France for the No. 7 spot.

Texas has more Fortune 500 companies (55) than any other state and we are “the headquarters of headquarters.”

Texas added more jobs than any other state last year.

Governor Abbott had high praise for Adriana Cruz and her all-star team. (Adriana is QB of the world’s most successful, comprehensive and sophisticated economic development effort.)

Gov. Abbott also had kind words for Secretary of State Jane Nelson and the Texas Legislature.

Gov. Abbott spoke of economic development being a team sport in Texas, thanking the local chambers and EDCs.

Fortunate to have (former) Texas Workforce Commissioner Aaron Demerson at helm of Texas Economic Development Corporation (Go Big in Texas).

Honored to attend on behalf of Texas Association of Business. TAB has the best chamber chair in America – Massey Villarreal has unrivaled business predictability. We know that the biz environment — already No. 1 — will continue to improve. (In contrast we know that the biz environment in CA, NY and Illinois will continue to get worse.)

Texas is the best place on Earth to invest!

Editor’s Note: The above commentary was posted on social media by Glenn Hamer, president and CEO of the Texas Association of Business, following his appearance at a celebration reception at the Governor’s Mansion. The event was held to acknowledge Texas being ranked No. 1 for business in 2023 by Site Selection magazine. With this distinction, Governor Greg Abbott was presented with the Governor’s Cup by the magazine..
