Feds: Man arrested in Harlingen for possession of child porn, destroying phone during FBI investigation

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Harlingen man is being held without bond after he allegedly destroyed his phone while the FBI was investigating him for possession of child pornography, court documents show.

Rico Deangelo Longoria was arrested on charges of destruction/alteration of records in a federal investigation and possession of child pornography, records show.

An indictment states that Longoria knowingly altered, destroyed, mutilated and concealed a Samsung Galaxy A14 cellphone with the intent to impede a child porn investigation by the FBI. Additionally, the document accuses Longoria of having images of a child under 12 years of age on the cellphone.

An arrest warrant for Longoria was issued on Tuesday and two days later, he was taken into custody in Harlingen.

Longoria made his initial appearance in court on Thursday morning, where it was announced he would be held without bond. A detention hearing was scheduled for May 21.
