MCALLEN, Texas – Six economic development leaders from Hidalgo and Starr counties participated in a panel discussion at South Texas College’s 2024 Workforce Summit.

The six were Rose Benavidez, president of Starr County Industrial Foundation, Keith Patridge, president of McAllen Economic Development Corporation, Steve Valdez, executive director of Weslaco Economic Development Corporation, Victor Perez, president of Pharr Economic Development Corporation, Teclo Garcia, CEO of Mission Economic Development Corporation, and Raudel Garza, executive director of Edinburg Economic Development Corporation.

They were joined on the panel by Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez. 

The discussion was titled “Unlocking a Brighter Future with Living Wages for the Residents of Hidalgo and Starr Counties.” Much of the discussion focused on how the Rio Grande Valley attracts better paying jobs.

The moderator was Dr. Carlos Margo, dean of the College of Advanced Training and Apprenticeships at STC.
