Good evening, everyone.
I have been blown away with so many people being so nice and being so friendly to us. I’m glad that everybody’s having a good time and enjoying themselves.
I’m honored to have the opportunity to share a few remarks in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Starr County Industrial Foundation. The founding of the Starr County Industrial Foundation half a century ago is undeniably linked to the overall growth of our county. This foundation has truly served as a catalyst for development in our region.
On behalf of the City of Roma, I applaud all current and past SCIF members for your tireless efforts in helping to modernize our communities through industry. You all will forever be known as the original visionaries of growth in our county. Let’s give them a round of applause.
I’ve had the pleasure of serving as a mayor of Roma for four years, and I’ve learned a lot. I’ve learned a lot from many colleagues, I have learned from the county leaders, Judge Vera, former mayors and current mayors, and it’s great when you learn and you start connecting the dots. I’m just starting my second term, it’s been a blast, and we’re looking forward to the next four years.
And with that, I realized that the government plays a vital role in economic development. However, when the private and public sectors unite to forge alliances through industry, remarkable things happen. And those remarkable things are happening and are taking place as we speak, in Starr County.
Thank you to Miss Rose Benavidez and the Starr County Industrial Foundation for bridging those two powers together.
As mayor of Roma, I am incredibly excited about the future of our beloved Starr County as industrial development continues to spread throughout the whole country, especially towards the western part of the county. As stated in my annual State of the City Address last month, we have been collaborating with the Starr County Industrial Foundation on several projects, and are anxiously awaiting a major multi-million dollar retail development project in Roma. How about a round of applause?
I look forward to renewing our partnership with the Starr County Industrial Foundation, and I’m excited about the city of Roma’s emerging and expanding role within this foundation. I congratulate Miss Rose Benavidez for her exceptional leadership as president, and I look forward to the next 50 years of growth and prosperity through the Starr County Industrial Foundation.
May God bless you all, and thank you all very much for allowing me to give these remarks. Thank you.
