Edinburg woman sentenced to 18 years for killing husband

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An Edinburg woman was sentenced to nearly two decades in prison for fatally shooting her husband.

Karla Marlen Deleon was found guilty of murder Tuesday in connection to death of her husband, Hector Deleon. On Wednesday morning, she was sentenced to 18 years in prison, court officials told ValleyCentral.

On Dec. 8, 2019, authorities were called to a disturbance at the 700 block of E. Russell Road. Police said that the disturbance escalated, resulting in Karla gaining possession of a revolver.

Police said Deleon shot her husband, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. She was taken into custody and her bond was set at $1 million on Dec. 10, 2019. She was released on bond the following day.
