DPS: Donna man runs stop sign, fatally crashes into ditch

WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that happened in rural Weslaco Friday evening.

Donna resident Concepcion Chable Reyes, 56, died at the scene.

DPS responded to the incident before 6 p.m. on Mile 6 Road W and Mile 12 Road N.

Preliminary investigation shows a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 driven by Reyes was traveling westbound on Mile 12 Road N.

According to DPS, Reyes ran a stop sign and crashed into a second vehicle, a Chevrolet Trailblazer that was traveling southbound on Mile 6 Road W.  

DPS says Reyes swerved his vehicle into a large drainage ditch where it later engulfed in flames. 

The driver of the Chevrolet Trailblazer was transported to Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Authorities say Reyes may have been under the influence at the time of the crash.

Toxicology reports are pending as the investigation continues.
