WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Rio Grande Valley District Attorney Coalition held a news conference Tuesday morning to discuss the implementation of its DWI "No Refusal" initiative.
The initiative will be honored from Wednesday, Nov. 27, to Thursday Jan. 2 within Cameron, Hidalgo, Willacy and Starr Counties.
It aims to curb drunk driving and ensure public safety throughout the holiday season. This is accomplished by having drivers who are suspected of DWI who refuse a breath test become subject to a court ordered blood draw at a medical facility.
This will ensure swift and lawful BAC testing.
"Our message is simple: Stay safe! Never drink and drive, or get behind the wheel under the influence. Your life and the lives of others depend on it," the Coalition stated.
District Attorney Luis V. Saenz spoke at the event and said the coalition is dedicated to safeguarding our community and ensuring that everyone enjoys a safe holiday season.
