A Progreso woman accused in a fatal motorcycle crash in Pharr ran a red light before hitting and killing a man.

Karla Belen De Leon, 27, is charged with criminal negligent homicide for the March 6 crash that killed Keith Bryan Patterson.

The crash happened at 8:48 a.m. that day at the intersection of North Cage and East Nolana Loop in Pharr.

When police arrived, they found Patterson on the ground. He was driving a 2005 black Harley Davidson motorcycle when a white Jeep Cherokee driven by De Leon crashed into him.

Police asked whether De Leon remembered what happened and she said “she remembers traveling north in her Jeep Cherokee and she was traveling on the inside lane of travel and she was going to make a left turn at the intersection, and then she felt the impact of the collision,” a probable cause affidavit stated.

Both De Leon and Patterson were taken to DHR Health, where Patterson died.

“Furthermore, Affiant will testify that he viewed dash camera video from two independent motorists that showed the driver of the Jeep Cherokee cut off a vehicle at the Nolana exit and viewed video of the same Jeep Cherokee disregarding the red stop traffic light at the intersection of Nolana and Cage causing the accident,” the affidavit stated.

She was booked into the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on Thursday and bailed out Friday on a $5,000 bond.
