EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A correctional officer accused of using excessive force on an inmate was indicted on Monday, authorities say.
Luis Jesus, 24, was formally charged with official oppression, a release from the Texas Juvenile Justice Department states.
On June 18, 2022, Luis Jesus, 24, allegedly used excessive force on a 16-year-old inmate who was in custody of TJJD.
According to a previous ValleyCentral report, Jesus attempted to conceal the incident by "tampering with documentation and physical evidence."
Authorities arrested Jesus at the time of the offense.
On March 27, Jesus was presented to a grand jury in Hidalgo County. The jury charged Jesus with one count of official oppression.
Jesus may face a fine of up to $4,000 and up to one year in jail.
