SAN JUAN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A memorial candlelight vigil will be held to honor and celebrate the life of a dog who was attacked and killed by a trespasser at a San Juan residence.

Local rescuers and animal advocates invite residents to celebrate the life of 11-year-old Max, the pug who was attacked earlier this month.

The vigil will be held at 6 p.m., April 23 in front of the residence where Max was attacked on the 900 block of South King Road in Alamo.

Max was presumed dead when home security footage showed him being attacked and strangled by a trespasser on the front yard.

Jacob Luna, 21, confessed to investigators that he strangled Max and tossed the body in a nearby trash can.

Attendees are welcome to bring posters, flowers and balloons to hold or place on the fence.

Candles will be available at the event to commemorate Max, the pug.

"This is not a riot or a protest," vigil organizers say. "Respect is critical at all times."

The event is also in honor of Animal Cruelty Awareness Month.
