CCSO: Man assaults girlfriend after refusing to let him drink with friends

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man is arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and a deputy, authorities say.

Cristian Jose Parra Hernandez, 30, is charged with assault on a peace officer, assault family violence, resisting arrest/transport and public intoxication, according to a news release from the Cameron County Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday, deputies responded to a residence regarding an assault in progress. While at the home, dispatch informed deputies that the suspect, later identified as Hernandez, was outside wearing a grey shirt and beige shorts.

At the scene, deputies found Hernandez on the public roadway and detained him, the release detailed. Deputies say, Hernandez displayed signs of intoxication, which included red bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

According to the release, during his arrest, Hernandez would tense his arms and ball up his hands to prevent deputies from placing the handcuffs on him.

After a brief struggle, he was placed into the unit. Authorities say, that while in the unit Hernandez would hit his head against the window, causing a laceration on his forehead.

Deputies later contacted the victim, who reported that Hernandez began the argument because he was intoxicated and wanted to go out and continue drinking with his friends.

According to the release, Hernandez's girlfriend stated she did not want him to continue to drink because he "tends to get aggressive towards her."

She also reported she attempted to call her friend to pick her and her child up, which led to Hernandez getting upset, grabbing her by the arm, leaving a scratch, pulling her hair and hitting her face.

Hernandez was transported to the Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center. At the detention center he used his right heel to kick a deputy on his left knee, the release stated.

Hernandez was released to the custody of the jail staff for medical attention and booking procedures.
