CITIZEN ALERT: The court will consider a major federal grant application exceeding $3.5 million for drug trafficking enforcement and a significant expansion of the Beach Waterpark to include a go-kart track and floating obstacle course.

Public Safety and Law Enforcement

  • Consideration and authorization to submit a grant application for the South Texas High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program in the amount of $3,522,119.00.
  • Authorization to purchase nine (9) 2025 Black Chevy Tahoe 4x4 PPV vehicles for the Sheriff Department totaling $555,300.00.
  • Purchase of two (2) commercial drones for Constable Pct. 4 to be utilized for investigations, search and rescue, and aerial assessment of critical incidents.
  • Ratification of an emergency purchase for a new commercial cooler/freezer at the Darrell B. Hester Detention Facility for $70,197.37.
  • Approval of a grant award from the Texas Department of Transportation for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) for fiscal year 2025-2026.

Infrastructure and Public Works

  • Discussion and possible action to create a second road paving crew for the Public Works department to increase infrastructure capacity.
  • Approval of a contract with Ford Powell Carson Architects for the architectural assessment and development of plans for the Cameron County Dancy Restoration Project.
  • Authorization to proceed with construction materials engineering and testing services for the Cameron County Beach Access No. 3 Rehabilitation Project.
  • Purchase of a fleet of vehicles for the Engineering and Building Department, including Ford F-150s, Broncos, Rangers, and an Expedition, totaling $294,343.
  • Approval of an interlocal agreement with Cameron County Drainage District No. 5.

Community and Parks

  • Possible action to allow the Beach Waterpark to add new attractions, including a fresh water pond, floating obstacle course, 4-lane hippo slide, and an electric go-kart race track.
  • Authorization to close the southbound lanes of the Gateway International Bridge on February 26, 2026, from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. for the "Hands Across the Border" festivities.
  • Issuance of renewal beach mobile vending permits for various vendors, including Dolly’s Ice Cream and Mariachi Originales Del Valle.
  • Approval of an RFQ for architectural and engineering services for the Laguna Madre Nature Center located at Bejarano McFarland Park.

Elections and Administration

  • Approval of a lease agreement with Texas Southmost College for training facilities for the upcoming March 2026 Primary Elections.
  • Approval of facility rental agreements with the American Legion Hall for early voting and election day polling sites for the 2026 election cycle.
  • Proclamation honoring Texas Southmost College on its 100th Anniversary and its commitment to educational excellence in the Rio Grande Valley.
