A 51-year-old Brownsville man was arrested at Los Indios International Bridge after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found him attempting to enter the country with over $600,000 worth of cocaine, according to a news release.
The release doesn’t identify the suspect, but states that the seizure took place on Tuesday when he attempted to make entry into the U.S. through Los Indios International Bridge in a 2011 Buick.
He was referred to a secondary inspection where officers discovered 20 packages hidden within the Buick with the assistance of a K-9 unit.
According to the release, officers removed the packages which contained a total of a little over 46 pounds of alleged cocaine worth an estimated street value of $616,389.
Officers seized the vehicle and narcotics.
“Our CBP officers work diligently to ensure the safety of our community, and this is an example of their ongoing efforts to protect our borders,” Brownsville Port Director Tater Ortiz said in the release.
