BPD: Man with 11 active warrants for auto theft arrested

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — One man was arrested early Wednesday morning in connection to multiple auto theft related warrants, the Brownsville Police Department said.

At approximately 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, 21-year-old Eric Jay Rodriguez was arrested at the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville.

Police say Rodriguez has 11 active warrants out of Brownsville PD for auto theft and engaging in organized criminal activity.

"We want to continue to remind everyone to take precautionary measures and secure your vehicles," Brownsville police stated.

Rodriguez was arraigned Thursday on five counts fo theft of a motor vehicle, five counts of engaging in organized criminal activity and attempted theft of a motor vehicle.

Brownsville PD warns residents and visitors that GMC and Chevrolet pickups and SUV vehicles have a high auto theft rate in the area.

"We will continue with our efforts to deter auto theft crime in our city," Brownsville PD said.
