Bank of America robbery suspect identified, bond set at $30,000

McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The suspect in a McAllen bank robbery has been identified by police.

At 1:54 p.m. authorities responded to a disturbance in progress at the Bank of America located at the 7500 block of N. 10th Street, according to the McAllen Police Department.

Man accused of recording sexual abuse of child now facing federal charges

The reporting party told dispatch a man came in, gave a note to the teller and stated he was being held hostage.

The man told the teller to take out $9000 and stated that if the transaction was not made, a person would come inside and shoot everyone, the release stated.

Responding officers spoke with the bank branch manager who pointed out the man and escorted him out. When authorities spoke with the man he stated, "he was desperate" and implicated himself as the suspect, according to McAllen police.

No injuries were reported during the incident, police say.

The suspect was identified as 29-year-old, Ediburg resident, Jeremy Lee Castaneda.

Castaneda was charged with robbery and a false report. He was arraigned Tuesday and given a bond of $30,000.
