EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Some players thrive in certain roles. UTRGV’s K.T. Raimey on the other hand puts his imprint on the game no matter where he is in the lineup.

“Regardless if I start or if I'm coming off the bench, we all gonna be on that floor together,” said K.T. Raimey fifth-year UTRGV Guard. “So, you know, when I get out there, I'm in between those four lines. You know, that's, that's my peace. You know when my teammates, you know, it's us against everybody else.”

The fifth-year guard transferred from DePaul in 2024 and Head Coach Kahil Fennell was the reason.

“Coach Fennell, really preached that when he was recruiting me like, you know, it's a fresh start, a different conference, a different league, you know, a way to be myself,” said Raimey. “And he kind of highlighted the points of where he can change my game and elevate it.”

K.T. is coming off a 20-point 10 rebound game against Dallas Christian. He’s all in on the style of play Coach Fennell wants.

“He's done such a fantastic job of buying into that and being a part of that, and I think you're seeing that with the numbers and his efficiency and just where he is in his career, and now he's playing the best basketball of his life, and I'm just really proud of him,” said Fennell.

Raimey has helped UTRGV to a 9-4 record its best start to a season since 2001-2002. His calming presence is making a difference.

“You know when we get in tough, tough situations where other teams go on a run,” said Raimey. “That's part of the game. You know, everybody goes on their run, just how you how you respond when they do it. So I feel like experience and veteran ship.”

K.T. and the Vaqueros are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 4 in New Orleans.
