An in-depth conversation with Rashmi Chandran, executive director of the AltaCair Foundation

MCALLEN, Texas – The AltaCair Foundation burst onto the scene about nine months ago in the Rio Grande Valley.

The nonprofit announced its arrival with the Accelerator 2023 RGV Health Equity Conference, held at the Radisson Hotel McAllen Airport. 

The keynote address was given by Aneesh Chopra, president of Care Journey and former U.S. chief technology officer. In his remarks, Chopra said the state of healthcare in the Valley had improved since Atul Gawande’s famous “The Cost Conundrum” article in The New Yorker 12 years ago.

Since then, AltaCair has been staging “cluster meetings” to hear from key players in sectors such as industry, healthcare, education, etc. It has also announced a pilot program for the region’s colonias.
