Amusement and adventure: Gravity Park South Padre Island

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Gravity Park has been a staple for amusement and adventure on South Padre Island since 1993.

Originally known for the tallest reverse-bungee in the world (The Sky Rocket), Gravity Park has expanded to include putt-putt golf, go-karts and more.

Two core principles for the amusement and adventure park are to provide thrills and family fun.

"If you wanna come out, hang out with your family, have a good time, come out to Gravity Park. We’ve got something for everybody," Rob Nixon, Gravity Park maintenance and operations manager, said.

Gravity Park is open everyday from 6 p.m. to midnight. With local customers ranging from adults to children, they provide a good time for all who come by.

Tourists can attest to that. Payton Sanchez, a first-time tourist of SPI, said, "As you see, us adults, we’re enjoying it while there’s little kids running around, so it’s fun for all ages, really."

Koen Miranda, a Laredo-native, also added, "After putt-putt golf, I wanna try the go-karts and then some of the slingshots and other stuff like that. They look nice. People should come over here to have fun, hang out with their family or friends and maybe even go on a date."

Even our Sports Anchor Blake Holland got in on the fun with a ride on the bungie jump with our intern Alexia. Check out the full clip of them riding it out for the first time below:

Since its opening in 1993, Gravity Park has seen business grow. With SPI becoming a year-round tourism destination, they have kept their services open to match that.

The company's late-night hours also cater to those who want something to do during the evening.

"The island has a lot of attractions for the day-time, but not so much at night, so we provide that niche for those people that aren’t interested in just sitting in, going to restaurants and going back to their hotel room," Nixon said. "We're here to provide thrills and family fun."
