A threat of rain and thunderstorms this weekend for the RGV

1 week ago 49

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A weak cold front is set to sag south toward the Valley this weekend and it is expected to bring a decent chance for rain.

The chance for rain will start right around midnight Sunday morning and last through the Day Sunday. The best chance for any significant rain or thunderstorms will be between 3 and 8 am when the front pushes through.

Right now the forecast is for general thunderstorm activity but stronger storms can't be ruled out. There is at least some potential for a few aggressive thunderstorms capable of producing heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and strong, gusty winds.

The Storm Prediction Center has the Valley in the general thunderstorm area with the severe threat well to our north.

If the chance for rain pans out as expected the RGV could see anywhere from a quarter of an inch to half an inch of rain with isolated higher amounts.

This cold front will open the door to a north wind which in turn will help to cool temperatures and lower humidity for the start of next week.
