MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral)—As Rio Grande Valley residents prepare for trick-or-treating this Halloween, medical experts warn that a good scare can come with certain health risks.
For those with certain health conditions, bright lights and loud noises at lawns and haunted houses can trigger serious issues.
Dr. Felipe Gutierrez with DHR Health says these conditions include anxiety, heart problems, and epilepsy. He broke down some of the signs to look out for.
"Anxiety may run into having a panic attack. Someone with heart disease may run into having either a mild heart attack up to a full-blown heart attack."
Dr. Gutierrez adds that people with those conditions should take caution before considering attending haunted houses and other scary attractions, many of which have epilepsy disclaimers and other health warnings.
