RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A 6-year-old boy on his way to school died Friday morning after he was involved in a two-vehicle crash.
The accident happened at approximately 7:31 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and FM 3167.
Police Chief Jose Solis with the Rio Grande City Police Department said three people were involved in the accident, including the 6-year-old boy.
The boy was the only person who was transported to Starr County Memorial Hospital where he later died due to his injuries.
He was pronounced dead at 7:55 a.m.
"It currently doesn't seem that alcohol or drugs played a factor in the accident, but investigators are still looking into the cause of the accident," Solis said.
The remaining two passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Solis reminds drivers to practice road safety.
"We live in a society where everyone's on the run. Everyone's fast-paced. I think we need to slow down, especially when commuting to work or dropping off our children at school throughout the day," Solis said. "A split second can change somebody's life."
