The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office said a 5-year-old boy died following an ATV crash Monday afternoon in Mission.
According to a news release, the sheriff’s office received a 911 call at 12:29 p.m. regarding an ATV crash on a private property near the 9900 block of North Iowa Road in Mission.
“Deputies responded to a local hospital, where they met the parents of two juvenile brothers who had crashed an ATV into a tree on their property,” the release stated. “The parents discovered the boys at the rear of the property and transported them to the hospital for medical treatment.”
The victim’s 11-year-old brother remains in critical but stable condition at a local hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
In the initial release, officials said investigators and crime scene specialists processed the crash site and spoke with witnesses.
