BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Congressman Vicente Gonzalez announced approximately $3 million in federal funds will be allocated toward the Resaca Restoration Project in Brownsville.

The $3 million fund will help restore the local habitat, increase water reliability and clean up trash debris from runoff entering the resaca.

"We must conserve Brownsville's unique and historic resacas so that future generations can experience their natural beauty and environmental benefits," Gonzalez said.

The grant comes from the Bureau of Reclamation in part with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

"Not only do they [resacas] help shape Brownsville's unique landscape, but they also mitigate flooding and are vital to our local ecosystem," Gonzalez continued.

Last year, Gonzalez secured an additional $2 million for the Resaca Restoration Project through community project funding.

He aims to bring over $15 million for public safety and critical infrastructure improvements across South Texas.
