Weslaco ISD employees will receive the first installment Friday as part of a stipend approved by the board of trustees over the summer.
During a June 25 regular meeting, the district’s board of trustees approved a $2,000 incentive stipend following a final presentation given by chief financial officer David Robledo.
Robledo previously gave various presentations regarding the stipend among other pay increases during budget workshops.
“If there is a district who is talking about that,” Robledo said in reference to the stipend during the June 18 workshop. “It’s not on that level at all.”
In Thursday’s announcement, the district touted that the payment is “among the highest in Region I.”
The stipend will be distributed in two installments: the first $1,000 arriving Friday and the remaining $1,000 scheduled for May.
“This financial initiative was locally funded through fiscal responsibility and reflects WISD’s commitment to supporting its dedicated educators and staff,” the release stated.
The district also noted that plans are already underway to incorporate the incentive stipend into the upcoming 2025-26 budget.
