MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A teenager was arrested for leading authorities on a high-speed chase with illegal immigrants in tow, a post by the Texas Department of Public Safety stated.

On Wednesday, a 17-year-old boy driving a Pontiac G6 led Texas DPS troopers on a high speed chase in Hidalgo County.

Alejandro Balderrama Jr., from Mission, allegedly disregarded several red traffic lights before losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a light pole, bailing out and running towards the backyard of homes.

The TxDOT Brush Team located and apprehended two immigrants who ran out of the car with Balderrama.

Balderrama, who was hiding in a horse stall concealed in a cardboard box, was arrested shortly after. Six illegal immigrants from Mexico remained in the vehicle, totaling eight.

Troopers charged Balderrama with smuggling of persons with the likelihood of serious bodily injury/death and evading arrest.

The eight illegal immigrants were referred to the U.S. Border Patrol.
