EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley wrapped up Cervical Cancer Awareness Month with a public health intitative.
The initiative was hosted by the UTRGV School of Medicine's South Texas Center of Excellence in Cancer Research to address statistics of cervical cancer in the Rio Grande Valley.
According to the UTRGV School of Medicine, the Valley has the highest cervical cancer mortality rates in the U.S., reported at 55% above the national average.
The event discussed research on cervical cancer including prevention, recovery, warning signs and risk factors.
