Harlingen, Texas (ValleyCentral) - U.S. Rep. Monica de la Cruz, (R) Texas 15, attended the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
She said her office is hosting over 200 constituents over the weekend for the now indoor event.
De la Cruz said she planned to start inauguration day on the House floor where all the members of Congress will gather before being led to the Capitol Rotunda.
The Edinburg congresswoman said she's looking forward to representing South Texas on this historic day and will attend the Liberty Ball on Monday night.
Trump has laid out a long list of priorities he says he'll begin to tackle on day one. De la Cruz says action on the border is at the top of that list, and the reason Trump was elected in November.
"The American people mandated that President Trump secure the border day one, and that's exactly what President Trump is going to do," de la Cruz told Valley Central Sunday night.
"In the first 100 days, that we will also be working on is budget reconciliation. And we'll be working on the 2025 and 2026 budgets. Right now, government has spending that has been out of control. So we want to rein in that spending, and put in items that the American people have mandated. And they have mandated that they want a secure border."
Some congressional Republicans have balked at the idea of working with Democrats to pass important legislation. De la Cruz says she's open to working across the aisle to get results.
