HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Border Patrol Agent Joey Garcia discussed the agency's annual toy drive and flag football tournament at the Brownsville Sports Park.
The event aims to provide toys for children who might not receive a Christmas gift. Last year, Border Patrol collected over a few hundred toys.
The tournament involves law enforcement, military, and first responders, with each participant bringing two toys. The community is invited to attend and contribute toys.
Garcia emphasized the importance of community involvement and inspiring future generations to pursue careers in public service.
"Once, we collect the toys, we go out to the community and the schools. We start giving out the toys, and the feedback we get from the teachers and the parents is that this will probably be the only toy that they get to receive this Christmas. That is extremely impactful for us, and it makes us happy that you know, that we're able to provide that for them," said Agent Garcia.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, Dec. 14 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brownsville Sports Park.
