TxDOT monitors rain, plans brining operations in upper Valley

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Transportation is monitoring the weather for brining operations.

According to a news release from TxDOT, crews are monitoring from Tuesday until Thursday the possibility of freezing rain, so crews may prepare to brine bridges and overpasses.

The brine solution contains a mixture of water and salt that prevents the buildup of ice on bridges, overpasses and flyovers.

These pretreatment operations will take place on roadways tomorrow in Zapata and Brooks County.

Drivers are advised to stay back and not weave between the TxDOT convoys while the anti-icing agent is being applied.
