TxDOT announces traffic switch in Brownsville road construction

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Transportation announced a traffic switch is underway in Brownsville for State Highway 4.

The traffic switch will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 4, on International Boulevard between I-69E and Taft Street.

According to a news release from TxDOT, the traffic pattern will change to move drivers onto the newly completed segment of State Highway 4 and allow construction crews to work on the other half of the roadway.

This transition will begin in the daytime hours, with weather permitting.

Drivers are to expect delays and are advised to follow all posted warning signs, traffic control devices and speed limit signs.

According to the release, the ongoing toad construction includes improving storm drainage systems, converting the pavement from asphalt to concrete, constructing continuous sidewalks and adding new signage and striping.

TxDOT states that construction completion is expected in late 2025 or early 2026.
