Tropical Storm Alberto: Live updates

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Valley Storm Team is bringing live updates as the first named storm of this year's hurricane season makes landfall.

Wednesday

3:24 p.m. - As of Wednesday afternoon, there are now a total of 1,430 AEP Texas power outages in Hidalgo, Starr, Cameron and Willacy counties. Magic Valley is reporting approximately 20 customers in Hidalgo County are without power. Only one Magic Valley customer in Cameron County is without power.

Noon - According to the AEP Texas outage map, approximately 2,851 customers in only Hidalgo and Cameron counties were without power Wednesday morning.

11:54 a.m. - "Light to heavy rain has become a little more widespread. Expect more waves of rain throughout the day. There is now a Slight (Level 2/5) Risk for severe weather for the lower Valley. 10:06 a.m. - The National Weather Service issued an urgent marine weather message, warning mariners to alter plans to avoid hazardous conditions.

10 a.m. - After becoming more organized, the disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico became the first named storm of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season; Tropical Storm Alberto. The National Weather Service stated it is expected to continue on a westward track, likely making landfall along the northeastern Mexican coast Thursday morning.

9:56 a.m. - The National Weather Service issued its eighth warning statement, with a forecast of tropical storm force winds expected in Raymondville, Port Mansfield, Port Isabel and South Padre Island. The statement also stated the "situation is somewhat favorable for tornadoes." The statement also added that major rainfall flooding may prompt "many evacuations and rescues."
