Too much of a good thing: The RGV will see a ton of rain this week

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Widespread heavy rain is forecast to unfold across the Rio Grande Valley later this week as a tropical low-pressure system develops across the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.

Right now the low is a disorganized blob but with the potential to develop into a tropical depression or even a tropical storm as it passes over the warm, welcoming waters of the Bay of Campeche and the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday through Thursday.

With rain in the Valley forecast day after day, the outlook has the mid and lower Valley getting seven inches of rain with possible, locally, heavier amounts. The upper Valley may see five inches, again with some heavier amounts possible.

Such large amounts of rain may lead to area-wide flooding. Have a plan of action in your head now if you live in a flood-prone area. Be prepared for lots of street flooding too and avoid those areas which always seem to be a hazard when it rains.
