SUV leaving driveway hit by speeding car kills Mission teen

WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Texas DPS is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Wednesday north of 6 Mile Road and FM 492 north of Mission.

The DPS news release said that at around 1:22 a.m., a Toyota Sequoia occupied by four people, including the driver, attempted to leave a private driveway from the west side of the roadway and cross FM 492 onto Fiesta Drive.

The investigation showed a Chevrolet Camaro, occupied by the driver and a passenger was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed, passed northbound traffic on the southbound lane, and collided with the Toyota.

The rear passenger of the Toyota was ejected from the right rear side and partially trapped underneath the Toyota, according to DPS.

Ashley Monserrat Pano Fuentes, 14, a resident of Mission, died from her injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota and two passengers were transported and remain at a local hospital, as well as the occupants of the Camaro.

DPS Troopers are further investigating this fatal crash.
