BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Students will soon be able to visit the Gladys Porter Zoo this summer at no cost.

Gladys Porter Zoo is bringing back its Summer Pass Program, allowing students in pre-kindergarten through 6th grade to visit the zoo for free.

Summer passes were distributed to school districts that make up Region One which covers schools in Hidalgo, Cameron, Willacy and Starr County.

Elementary students outside of the Rio Grande Valley in Brooks, Jim Hogg, Webb and Zapata counties will also be eligible to enter the zoo for free this summer.

According to the Gladys Porter Zoo, students listed within the eight eligible counties will receive a one-time use pass before the end of the school year.

The one-time use pass will be valid starting June 1 until August 31.

Up to four children, each with a pass, can visit the zoo with one paying adult, the zoo says.

Parents wanting to know when they can expect to receive their child’s Summer Pass can reach out to their school or their district’s main office.
