SOUTH TEXAS HEALTH SYSTEM EDINBURG & STHS CHILDREN’S PARTNERING WITH VANGUARD ACADEMY TO HIGHLIGHT CAREERS WITHIN THE HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY
As part of STHS’ commitment to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals, STHS Edinburg & STHS Children’s will host the Pathways to Healthcare Careers Conference to highlight hospital-based careers to Vanguard Academy students
The healthcare sector holds many of the best job opportunities for workers with overall employment in the industry projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2033, per the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, with an estimated 1.9 million openings projected annually.
With a large demand for healthcare in the Rio Grande Valley, there are many hospital-based careers available at South Texas Health System’s 12 facilities, as well as others throughout the region, which play a significant role in the overall health of a community.
As part of South Texas Health System’s commitment to inspire and empower the next generation of healthcare professionals, STHS Edinburg and STHS Children’s are partnering with Vanguard Academy to host the Pathways to Healthcare Careers Conference on the STHS Edinburg campus to introduce students to the careers in the hospital setting.
“South Texas Health System recognizes the important role we play in helping shape the future for students in the communities we serve,” says Lance Ames, Chief Executive Officer, STHS Edinburg and STHS Children’s. “Nationally, there’s a vital need to increase the number of students pursuing careers in the health professions. By partnering with schools like Vanguard Academy, we’re introducing local students to the diverse employment opportunities within the healthcare industry beyond doctors and nurses; and we’re empowering them to pursue the training and education necessary to advance professionally while serving their communities.”
During the daylong conference, students will participate in interactive presentations led by various STHS Edinburg and STHS Children’s department leaders and staff members. In addition, tours of the two facilities will also be given to offer the students a first-hand look at what the healthcare field has to offer.
“At the end of the day, the goal is to highlight the various pathways these students can take in becoming a future healthcare hero,” says Ames. “Through this special conference, the students will be able to better understand the various roles in the hospital setting and set their sights on pursuing a rewarding career in healthcare.”
During the conference, which will take place on Friday, January 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Cactus Room at STHS Edinburg, students will hear from representatives from several departments including nursing, radiology, laboratory services, respiratory services, pharmacy, surgery, rehabilitation and emergency services. A Lunch & Learn panel discussion will also take place where students will hear from medical professionals about life in a hospital pre- and post-pandemic.
South Texas Health System hosts its Pathways to Healthcare Careers Conferences across its facilities throughout the year. If your school is interested in participating in one, please email STHSMarketing@uhsrgv.com or call 956-388-2020.
