Spiders, roaches and owner hides from cameras

LA VILLA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — In this week’s Food 4 Thought, we headed to a restaurant that got busted lying to the Food Patrol and to a pizza spot that has moved to a new location.

First, we surprised the folks at Piccola Italia Food Truck located at 898 North Austin Street in San Benito.

Piccola moved from Harlingen to the new spot and owner Lorenzo Taddeie was moved when we showed him what he earned.

"We barely moved here and we have been so proud of San Benito," he said. "It's a good area. We were in Harlingen before a lot of customers were coming from there. Thank you for stopping by. I didn't expect all of this."

Revisit to restaurant with roaches admittedly goes ‘bad’

Taddeie got emotional when he was handed the Top Performer sticker and because people have been kind to his business.

That's que rico! But it's que asco time!

The Food Patrol headed to Los A-B’s restaurant located at 921 Mike Chapa Street in La Villa.

The Hidalgo County Health Department found 30 violations on its Jan.15 inspection report and sent us the photos.

Violations included:

  • Unprotected food
  • No hairnets or gloves
  • Rodents crawling through holes
  • Spiderwebs in the kitchen
  • Roaches

We came in looking for the owner Luis Campos but his employee said he was not there, so we called him.

The phone to the restaurant started ringing and Campos answered to tell us he was not there.

However, the noises on the phone were the same ones we heard in the restaurant.

We suspected a car outside the establishment was him and we were right. Campos was not in Brownsville like he claimed to be.

And that’s Food 4 Thought.
