EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — We already knew UTRGV was opening its first-ever football season on August 30 against Sul Ross State. Now we know the 11 other opponents, including their first Southland Conference game against Southeastern on September 27.

“Definitely one of the toughest teams in the conference,” said Travis Bush UTRGV Football Coach. “They play well at home again, a lot of familiarity with our staff and the conference, so that's going to be a tough challenge right off the bat.”

Another date to keep your eye on is October 4, when the Vaqueros play their first home conference game against Houston Christian University.

“Definitely got to win at home to have a chance,” said Bush. “You know, that's our first home game. That's our first home conference game. But you definitely, you got to circle those as games that you got to find a way to win.”

Then there’s the home game on October 25 against Incarnate Word. The Cardinals are winners of three out of the last four conference championships.

“They do a lot of great things in the program that we've gotten,” said Bush. “You know, we've gotten some ideas from so again, it will be, we'll be excited, but we definitely, you know, our goal is to is to be the best in this conference at some point. So we've got to stack up and stand up and play the best.”

That game against Incarnate Word is one of seven home games for the Vaqueros. It also happens to be the closest conference opponent in terms of distance to UTRGV.
