HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The South Texas Literacy Coalition is hosting a lottery event to raise funds for combating illiteracy in the region.
The family-friendly event, themed "For the Love of Literacy," will feature prizes, concessions, and a competitive atmosphere.

It will take place at the Pepe Salinas Civic Center in Pharr from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.
The coalition is also known for its South Texas Reading Initiative, which has distributed millions of free books over 15 years.
They encourage community involvement through social media and volunteer opportunities.
