Sheriff: Rio Grande City Grulla ISD student arrested for making threats via Snapchat

STARR COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A student enrolled in Rio Grande City Grulla Independent School District was arrested for an alleged terroristic threat against the school on Snapchat, Starr County deputies say.

On Saturday the sheriff's office received information from the Federal Bureau of Investigations regarding a terroristic threat against a school through Snapchat, according to a news release from the Starr County Sheriff's Office.

The FBI, Texas Department of Public Safety, Rio Grande City Police, Starr County Attorney's Office and RGCGISD Police Department collaborated with the Starr County Sheriff's Office to identify an actively enrolled student at RGCGISD.

The release stated that investigators arrested the student for making threats against the school.

"Further detentions will be determined by the outcome of this investigation," Starr County officials stated in the release. "While the investigation remains ongoing, there are currently no credible active threats to the safety of our students and staff at RGCGISD."
