Sharyland student awarded prestigious UT Austin scholarship

MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Sharyland Advanced Academic Academy student was awarded a prestigious scholarship to her dream college during a surprise ceremony on Thursday.

Madison Hernandez is one of 70 students in Texas to earn the UT Austin Impact Scholarship.

The $48,000 scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate academic achievement and leadership in their community.

"It's been my dream college for a very long time. I'm just so excited that I get this opportunity to go," Hernandez said.

Close friends, teachers, and family attended the ceremony.

"I'm just so happy that everyone came out here to support me and all my closest friends and family," Hernandez continued.

Hernandez plans to study environmental engineering at UT Austin.

"Congratulations to Madison and her family," said David Garcia, Director of the UT Valley Admission Center. "We're excited to see her come to our campus in Austin and make an impact on our campus next year."
