Driver in auto-ped involving minors identified, bond set at $550K

MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Authorities have identified the man accused of striking two minors with his car and leaving the scene.

Reynaldo Garcia, 46, is charged with aggravated assault with deadly weapon family 1st degree felony, aggravated assault with deadly weapon 2nd degree felony, criminal attempt aggravated assault with deadly weapon, and two counts of accident involving injury 3rd degree felony.

Garcia’s total bond was set at $550,000.

Background

On Wednesday, authorities confirmed an auto-pedestrian accident involving minors took place in Mission.

Art Flores with the Mission Police Department told ValleyCentral the accident happened at 8:30 a.m. on North Holland Ave.

Two minors and an adult were walking northbound on N. Holland Ave. when a gray Chrysler, also driving northbound, made a U-turn, Flores said.

The driver of the Chrysler struck the two minors and drove away from the scene, according to police.

Both minors sustained minor injuries in the collision.

Later police informed that the driver, identified as Garcia, fled the area and his car was found abandoned on Hollyfield Street and Berry Street.

Garcia was later arrested at 9:59 a.m. on foot close to a canal bank.
