SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Sea Turtle Inc. is making preparations to protect over 9,000 hatchling eggs from Hurricane Beryl.

Staff, volunteers and city officials have implemented protective measures for the nests by fortifying the corrals from high tides, potential flooding and other dangers that can affect the eggs.

What happened to the shark responsible for the July 4 SPI attacks?

“We learned a lot about vulnerabilities of the corral after the floods from Alberto; that storm showed us how to prepare for this event," said Chief Executive Officer Wendy Knight. “We are hopeful that the storm will dissipate before it gets to us, but we are preparing for the worst. We are grateful for the support from the community and local government as we navigate the uncertainty of this situation."

Sea Turtle Inc. said the corral has 9,500 endangered sea turtle eggs. Staff and volunteers built a wall of sand to protect the corral and prevent damages that were seen during Tropical Storm Alberto.
